“We are fully aware what has the margin level been in the PC world. We have gone into this with our eyes wide open,”said Kai Oistamo, the head of Nokia’s key phone unit.
The world’s lead mobile phone manufacturer Nokia announced that it would begin to manufacture laptops,entering a more and more fiercely competitive, but fast-growing market.
For its first netbook, the Nokia Booklet 3G, will use Microsoft’s Windows software and Intel’s Atom processor, offering over 12 hours of battery life, and weighing 1.25 kilograms. Netbooks are low-cost laptops optimized for surfing the Internet and performing other basic applications. Pioneered by Asustek in 2007, other brands such as HP and Dell have also pushed out their own lines since then.
Nokia said it would reveal detailes, market availability and pricing of the device later.
Research firm IDC expects netbook shipments this year to raise more than 127 percent from 2008 to over 26 million units, outperforming the overall PC market which is expected to remain flat and a phone market which is shrinking some 10 percent.
Nokia has seen its profit margins drop over the last quarters as handset demand has slumped, and analysts have worried that entering the PC industry, where margins are traditionally razor-thin, could be a bad influence on Nokia’s profits in the future.
“Nokia will be hoping that its brand and knowledge of cellular channels will play to its strengths as it addresses this crowded, cut-throat segment,” said Ben Wood, director of research at CCS Insight. “At present we see Nokia’s foray into the netbook market as a niche exercise in the context of its broader business.”

LG Plans to Build New LCD Factory For LCD Market’s recovering

Last week, DisplaySearch,a worldwide leader in LCD market percent to 30 million in the second quarter this year,and the number of LCD TVs sold in China will probably jump 76 percent to 23.6 million this year.
It seems to be a signal that the current LCD display market is recovering from financial crisis. The world’s largest LCD manufacturer, Samsung Electronics, and Japan’s largest LCD TV manufacturer, Sharp Corp, also have showed interest in building manufactories in China.
A couple days ago, LG Display, the South Korean electronics giant and the world’s second-largest LCD factory,stated that their plan of building an new advanced completed liquid-crystal display(LCD) factory in Guangzhou City of Guangdong Province,China,to meet the China’s fast-growing flat-screen television demand.Actually, LG Display did not reveal details about the new manufacture.
However,this business is still awaiting approval by the South Korean government and the board of Seoul-based LG Display.But LG also stated that they have got the approval from Guangzhou City Government last Friday for building the largest one in China,which is estimated to cost about $4 billion by Maeil Business Newspaper.
In my view,the reason for LG or other LCD manufacturer’s expansion can be concluded in two.One is the recovering of the financial crisis that encourage domestic electronics goods manufacturer to rethink their traditional way of importing expensive LCD displays from abroad providers.The other is the positive effects on the LCD market from the government’s recent effort to provide subsidies to television buyers in rural areas.

China Unicom’s H1 Net Profit fell 42.1% hoped to turn around by selling iPhone

In early days,China Unicom,the second largest telecom operator in China,is reported that its net profit in the first half fell 42.1 percent year on year to tatal 6.62 billion yuan(about 973.5 million U.S.dollar) under international accounting rules.
And according to a statement from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, China Unicom’s revenue stood at 76.32 billion yuan in the first half and earnings per share were 0.28 yuan.
In order to turn around the falling profit, China Unicom stated that they would focus on enhancing their mobile communication service in the second half to make more efforts to optimize the Third Generation Service(3G) Network.Also,to broaden business launching new products is a vital step .
As to launching new products, China Unicom’s deal of iPhone with Apple has been attracting a huge of attentions too.The two companies released a joint announcement that they had come to an agreement on bringing iPhone into China market over the next three years.The agreement also revealed that iPhone would land on China in the forth quarter this year.
More details about the deal are still unclear.However,this type of iPhone landing on China are sure to be withdrawed WiFi.

Several days ago, The FCC held its first meeting with all hands on deck since new presdent Obama assumed the reins of government and during the key issues on the agenda there is discussion about an inquiry on the wireless industry. The FCC is launching an inquiry into the practice of exclusive deals between handset makers and carriers.
One of the highest profile exclusives in the industry is AT&T and the iPhone. The deals are being opposed vehemently by rural carriers who say they can’t compete with the big carriers. The FCC commissioners also had a vote to issue a separate inquiry to find out how the FCC be able to inspire competition.
In my own view,maybe FCC stop exclusive deals decidedly if be really in the hope of inspiring competition.Many people say that the quality of AT&T network in their areas falis to reach their satisfaction at all.They still take the unsatisfied service only because of keeping their iPhone using.Some people talk turkey that they would abandon the AT&T if they could get the iPhone on Verizon.I suggest that FCC should have some changes proceeding from actual conditions.

Application Store Market is estimated at 2.5 billion dollars a year

A couple days ago,a mobile metrics report of July 2009,from AdMob,a famous mobile advertising firm, estimates that applicaton store market size may be worth at approaching $2.5 billion in one year.
The report is based on a result of a survey of over 1,100 iPhone, iPod touch, and Android users,to acquire more details and datas about their application usage.
As the figure above shows,the report reveals that iPhone users download approximately 10 applications per month on average,25% of which are under paid. iPod touch users download over 18 applications per month on average,but only two of which are under paid.
In addition,the report also shows that approximately a half of iPhone users download at least one paid application in a month,while only 40% of iPod touch users will do likewise. The iPhone users who do download paid applications average approximately five paid downloads in a month and spend an average of $9.49,while iPod touch users spend an average of $9.79, for an average each application just cost under $2.00 to download.

iPhone gobbles up 32% of smartphone profit

Apple certainly hit a home run with the iPhone. Even those of us who don’t worship at the altar of Jobs have found the iPhone to be a fantastic device worthy of most of the praise it’s given. The sales of the smartphone show that it has hit a chord with consumers.
An analyst from Bernstein research named Toni Sacconaghi has said that Apple has managed to gobble 32% of all the profits to be had in the smartphone market. The astounding part of that is that Apple only holds 8% of the smartphone market.
That should give an idea of how lucrative the subsidies are that Apple is receiving from its exclusive partners. Maybe Apple needs those partners as much as they need its exclusive deal. Apple reported that it sold 5.2 million iPhones in its last quarterly earnings.

Nokia Sees Lower Sales and Profits in 2nd Quarter

Nokia has seen its profits drop in the 2nd quarter of 2009 to about 600 million USD. That is a 71% drop from last years 2 billion USD. That is quite a drop for the worlds largest mobile phone manufacturer. Not only are profits down but sales numbers are down too about 25 percent. Nokia did manage to ship about 100million units during the 2nd quarter which is only about 15% less than last year. Nokia also said that it was expecting numbers like this since the global mobile market has shrunk about 10% versus 2008.
Taiwan Fighting Fake Chinese Phones

With the flood of Chinese knock off phones making their way around the world its no surprise some countries are trying to combat the problem. While getting rid of the problem entirely is probably not feasible there are measures countries are taking. The Taiwanese National Communications Commission for instance has recently announced that any resident of Taiwan caught importing more than five fake phones will be fined over $9,000USD. There are also fines for persons caught with 2 or more Chinese knock off cell phones. This is a policy all countries should be adopting.
